What the thread actually is
The dish ships with a base that ends in a 1.5 inch pipe thread — the same interface Starlink uses across the Standard and the Mini. It is the standard mounting point: any mount that accepts 1.5 inch pipe takes the dish with nothing in between. That is why so many third-party brackets simply offer a 1.5 inch collar or arm.
When you do NOT need an adapter
If the mount is built for the 1.5 inch thread, the dish goes straight on. Our roof kit, wall bracket and tripod all accept the thread directly, so no official adapter has to be bought. The same is true of most purpose-built Starlink mounts.
When you DO need one
You need an adapter only when the sizes do not already match — for example a pole or mast of a different diameter, or fitting the dish to existing hardware that was never meant for 1.5 inch pipe. In those cases a simple collar adapter bridges the two diameters.
The official adapter
Starlink sells an official pipe adapter, and it is the right part when a mount genuinely requires it. But buying it "just in case" is wasted money if your mount already takes the 1.5 inch thread — which most do.
